About half an hour from St Malo and about 1 hour from Rennes, Cancale is a small coastal town popular for Oysters. Well, the story ends here. Really, Cancale is just like any other typical Brittany town. It has turquoise crystal clear water, port, small beach and lots of seafood. Then why to go there specially?
Cancale is an epicenter of Oysters and shellfishes. If you are fond of seafood and that too oysters and shellfishes, you should come to Cancale. Lets see one by one, things to do in Cancale
Oysters and shellfishes
Cancale is the major hub of oyster production. Here you will find them in literally ALL restaurants – along the port, inside the city, everywhere. If you walk along the coast during low tide, you can see oyster farms. If you wish, you can enjoy fresh oysters right besides these farms also. In the restaurants, you can relish on many other shellfishes, mussels, snails etc.
Cancale is a hilly region and therefore one can hike around the marked trails to admire the unending views over the English channel. These walks are not much difficult, kids can also enjoy.
Cancale has a small beach near the port. Low tides on a shining day is the perfect time for beach sports like beach ball. Plenty of paid parking spaces are available along the port road.
As Cancale is producing oysters from a long time, this museum of oysters and shellfishes is also worth visiting. here, you will see oyster production, one short film, a museum and will also get to taste fresh oysters. This museum will be an interesting activity for all age groups.
Cancale’s tourist information office is at the town centre near the town church. You will get more information on things to do in and around Cancale. I have listed only the prominent and must do things in Cancale.
